The Granite Solutions Granite System
How many colors are available?
We currently have 14 colors available, all with our signature oversized bullnose edge. Our Black Empress color is available with our bullnose edge or a chiseled edge.
Will the granite pieces match each other?
As with any natural stone, there is inherent shade variation and no two tiles or components will be identical. Benissimo Granite Solutions has several stages of shade control and has been featured in Floor Covering Weekly for its quality, attention to detail and tracking of shade lots. In addition to shade control at the factory, every job is specifically inspected for shade flow. Before installation, it is important to dry lay the components to determine the pieces that flow best together.
Is the granite real or manufactured?
Benissimo Granite Solutions is solid, A-grade granite - not a composite. In addition, because of the high quality, the granite has not been enhanced or filled.
Where does the granite come from?
The granite comes from all over the world including China, India, Brazil, Norway, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, and other countries. Benissimo Granite is selected based on quality, color, shade consistency and supply availability.
What other edge options are available?
Granite Solutions features an oversized, designer bullnose edge available in all 14 colors. Our Black Empress color is available with a bullnose edge or chiseled edge.
How do I measure for a job with Granite Solutions?
It is not difficult to measure a counter for Granite Solutions. Simply measure the wall and make your counter layout, noting any cutouts for refrigerators, sinks, stoves, etc. Note the components needed for each area and total the pieces. See our Project Planner for more detailed information.
Are the grout lines noticeable?
Unlike the grout lines of ceramic or other stone tile installations, Benissimo Granite Solutions has tight joints or seams. Placing components directly next to each other without spacers ensures a symmetrical look, with minimal seams making the grout lines less noticeable. Using a complementary, not contrasting, grout color will also help to minimize the look of the seams.
Is your granite also available in slabs?
No. Benissimo Systems Granite Solutions is a modular-slab system designed to provide the look of slab at a significant cost savings. Because it is installed like tile, Granite Solutions is an excellent choice for adding value or upgrades without the slab cost. For more information on the modular-slab system, see Components.

Granite Care and Maintenance
How do I maintain the granite?
Granite, being a natural stone, requires proper periodic resealing with a penetrating sealer at least once every couple of years to prevent staining. Clean the granite with neutral cleaner with a pH between 7 and 10. Do not use cleaners containing acid or bleach. See Granite Care and Maintenance for more detailed information.
Benissimo offers a complete line of sealers and cleaners.
Can I put a hot pan directly on the granite?
Once the granite has been sealed with a penetrating stone sealer, you can place hot pans directly on the granite. However Benissimo recommends the use of mats or trivets under hot dishes or pans to prolong the life of the sealer. Note: Cutting on the surface is not recommended. See Granite Care and Maintenance for more detailed information.
Installing Granite Solutions
Can I install this product myself?
Benissimo Granite Solutions can be installed by a tile installer or as a do-it-yourself project. Granite Solutions was recently featured on the DIY network’s Rock Solid program, with a full ½ hour dedicated to the installation of Benissimo from a home-owner’s perspective. Download detailed installation instructions or ask your local dealer if they can assist you in finding a tile installer in your area.
What type of grout do you recommend?
It is recommended to use a non-sanded grout in a complementary color in the small v-bevel between the tiles. Epoxy grout could be used. However, most jobs use the non-sanded grout due to color selection and ease of installation. Benissimo Granite Solutions has been precision milled to accommodate tight, net-fit joints. This means that the tiles are installed directly next to each other, without spacers, for minimal seams. Download detailed installation instructions.
What color of grout is most commonly used or recommended?
Over 95% of all installations use non-sanded grout in a complementary, not contrasting, color. This color selection is based on the homeowner or designer preference. A non-sanded grout should be used in the v-bevel between the tiles for a minimal seam. An epoxy grout could also be used.
What type of sink can I use?
There are several choices for sinks that can be done by a tile installer, such as a top mount, drop-in, raised edge or a tile-in sink. All are widely available and come in a wide range of colors that correspond with the granite.
Note: An undermount sink could also be used, but requires installation by a granite craftsman, not a tile installer. Download undermount sink instructions.
Does the granite need to be sealed?
Yes. It is important to seal both the granite and the non-sanded grout with a penetrating stone sealer. This is true for any natural stone, including granite slab. Most sealers recommend periodic resealing for general maintenance. See Granite Care and Maintenance for more detailed information and a listing of Benissimo-branded sealers.
What type of setting material should I use?
It is important to use a quick set modified thin set for an even installation. Because the components are heavily weighted on the bullnose side, it is necessary that they set while being installed for a flat installation.
Can Benissimo Granite Solutions be installed over laminate?
Yes, Granite Solutions can be installed directly over laminate counters for a remodel. Laminate substrate should be structurally sound and dimensionally stable and over ¾ plywood. The laminate self-edge needs to be removed so that the counter is flush with the cabinets. It is important to use a quick setting modified thin set for granite installations over granite. Download Benissimo laminate installation sheet.
What type of support is needed for an overhang installation?
In order to accommodate an overhang, the overhang must be dimensionally sound and stable, with no deflections. Corbels should be spaced 24 inches apart, and an angle iron used to support the edge of the overhang. The overhang cannot be more than 12 inches from the cabinet. Download Benissimo overhang installation sheet.
How do I accommodate for odd angles or sizes?
Benissimo Granite Solutions has been designed to accommodate various angles and sizes. Because the granite is 3/8 inch, it can be cut using a standard wet saw and installed by a tile installer or as a DIY project. These cuts are made on-site, not by Benissimo. It is important to cut the bullnose edge first and ease the cut edge with a stone to match the factory eased edge.
What does net fit mean?
Benissimo Granite Solutions is solid, A-grade granite. It has been precision milled. All the edges of the components have been eased to accommodate a tight, net fit. This means that the tiles are placed directly next to each other without spacers. This ensures a symmetrical look, with minimal seams. Non-sanded grout is used in the small v-bevel between the components.
What is the recommended substrate?
Benissimo Granite Solutions allows for 1 1/8 inch substrate build up, including the quick-set modified thin set. The recommended substrate materials and dimensions is ⅝ inch cabinet grade plywood with ¼ inch concrete board.
Where can Granite Solutions be installed?
Granite Solutions has unlimited applications, indoors or out. Its components are modular and can be cut on-site, making it perfect for tub and bath surrounds, fireplace mantles, hearths and inlays, outdoor kitchens and barbeques and staircases. The field tile can also be used on the floor.
By far the most common application for Granite Solutions is kitchen and bathroom counters. The modular system was specifically designed to accommodate standard 24-inch counters with little or no cuts, resulting in an easy 2-piece installation with no small “filler” pieces and minimal seams. View the Application Gallery for examples of the diverse applications.
Can Granite Solutions be installed outside?
Yes. Benissimo Granite Solutions is solid A-grade granite composed of Feldspar, Quartz, Mica, and other minerals, making it one of the hardest stones in the world. It has been used for building and decorative purposes for centuries. Granite is ideal for interior or exterior flooring and other applications. When used outdoors, granite's mineralogical structure is not influenced by freeze-thaw cycles.
